User Experience Designers

At The Mechanical Zoo our work is focused on the user. We've made a commitment to an active program of user research from the very start, employing qualitative and quantitative methods to guide the product design process. We think about user experience within the broader context of design and psychology, beyond questions of specific technologies.

We're looking for a User Experience Designer to help set the direction, tone, and strategy for our products. We're seeking someone who will contribute directly in their particular areas of expertise (web design, quantitative usability research, UI design, etc.) -- but also someone who can help guide product development at all levels, not just at the level of interaction design or graphic design for the interface.

Quantitative Engineers

We're looking for quants who extract the collective intelligence of large groups of people by analyzing weblogs, query streams, and transcripts of user interaction. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the development of automation tools that provide continuous analysis along the lines and scale of Netflix's recommendation system or Alexa's traffic aggregator.

Product Marketer

We're looking for a product marketing expert to facilitate the consumer success of our products. The Product Marketer helps define strategy for product positioning, branding, user acquisition and user retention. The Product Marketer implements these strategies and works directly on product launches, messaging, outreach, and public relations.

Quantitative and qualitative user research drive all of our decisions at The Mechanical Zoo, so our Product Marketer is data-driven and strives to understand our users' behavior. The Product Marketer helps determine what data we should collect and analyzes these data to inform important business and product decisions. Because The Mechanical Zoo is focused on solving real-world problems for real users, the Product Marketer focuses on real utility and benefit to users as opposed to hype or the latest Web 2.0 fad.

At The Mechanical Zoo our products are designed to spread naturally to new users through word-of-mouth recommendations. Spreading in this way requires that we have a comprehensive understanding of how our users interact, communicate, and share. As a result, our Product Marketer thinks about marketing in a holistic fashion inclusive of the entire product ecosystem (users, brand, product features, etc.).

This is our first full-time marketing hire, so our Product Marketer has the exciting early-stage opportunity to significantly affect the direction of our products. The team size is small (a couple of engineers per team), and the Product Marketer works across traditional organizational boundaries with engineers, user experience designers, and business development.
