The Mechanical Zoo was founded in late 2007 by Max Ventilla, Damon Horowitz, Nathan Stoll, and Rob Spiro.
Starting in early 2008 the company raised seed financing from a number of premier angel investors and carefully grew a high-caliber engineering team. Today, the team includes the previous founders of more than a half dozen startups, four AI Ph.D.s, and engineers from all of the major search engines. We're still hiring.
We currently have an alpha version of our first product running with a limited number of users as we do final tuning. If you're interested in being part of our alpha group, send us an email to request an invitation.
Our initial release is scheduled for Fall 2008.
We're excited about how recently emerged or emerging technologies enable fewer people to do more, faster and better than in the past. We're also excited about new paradigms of data availability and access: web services, data APIs, widget architectures, and the like, and the kinds of problems that can be solved with them. At the same time we recognize the limitations of these tools, and aren't afraid to build our own when necessary.
